Apple Airport Express

Enjoy your iTunes music library in virtually any room of your house. Share a single broadband Internet connection and USB printer without inconvenient and obtrusive cables. Create an instant wireless network on the go. Extend the range of your current wireless network. How many devices do you need to do all this? Just one.

Presenting AirPort Express.
Speed 54 Mbps

Featuring AirTunes for playing your iTunes music wirelessly on your home stereo or powered speakers, AirPort Express brings not only the Internet but your music to wherever in your home you like to enjoy them most — whether you use a Mac or Windows PC. Unmatched in its ease of use, it delivers data rates up to 54 megabits per second, fits in the palm of your hand so you can take it wherever you go — and it costs just $129.
Driving the Wi-Fi Revolution

In 1999, Apple sparked the wireless revolution with the introduction of AirPort, the first affordable and easy-to-use solution for accessing the Internet without restrictive cables. In 2003, AirPort Extreme took your unwired connection to the next level by harnessing the superfast 802.11g wireless standard for data rates nearly five times those of the 802.11b standard that the original AirPort used and many current wireless networking devices still use. With AirPort Express, Apple continues to advance wireless, delivering the first device to pack wireless networking, audio, printing and bridging capabilities into a single affordable, portable unit.
AirTunes Unleashes Your Music
AirTunes

AirPort Express with AirTunes brings your iTunes music in your Mac or PC into your living room — or wherever in your home you have a stereo or a set of powered speakers.(1) All you have to do is connect your sound system to the audio port on the AirPort Express Base Station using an audio cable (included in the optional AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit) and AirTunes lets you play your iTunes music through your stereo or powered speakers — wirelessly. iTunes automatically detects the connection of your remote speakers, so you just have to select them in the popup list that appears at the bottom of the iTunes window and click play.(2)

Enjoy your playlists, set iTunes to shuffle through your entire library or repeat your favorite songs over and over again — however you like to enjoy your music on iTunes, you can now enjoy it that way through your stereo speakers, wherever they’re located in your house.

Buy more than one AirPort Express Base Station and connect one to every stereo or set of powered speakers in your house — one to your stereo in your living room and another to a pair of powered speakers in your kitchen, for example. Its small size and affordability make it perfect for having more than one. Imagine being able to play your iTunes music on whichever speakers in your house you prefer.
AirTunes

Because AirPort Express is so compact, you can also easily take it along with your laptop to a friend’s house and share your unique musical taste on your friend’s stereo.
Add Music to Your Current Wireless Network

If you already have a wireless network in place, you can use AirPort Express to add music to its capabilities. Let’s say, for example, you have AirPort Extreme set up in your den. There’s no need to scrap this setup and create a whole new one with an AirPort Express Base Station, your DSL or cable modem, printer and stereo all in one place. Simply connect AirPort Express to your stereo in your favorite music room and plug it into an electrical outlet — it wirelessly links to your existing network, letting you play your music in your room of choice without moving anything or connecting anything else.
Connect Wirelessly

AirPort Express uses the 802.11g wireless standard to deliver blazing data rates — up to 54 Mbps.(3) It supports both Macs equipped with an AirPort Extreme Card and Wi-Fi-compliant 802.11g Windows PCs, as well as Macs with the older AirPort Card and 802.11b Windows PCs. Everyone in your family can surf the web wire-free because AirPort Express provides simultaneous wireless Internet access via your DSL or cable modem for up to 10 computers(4).

AirPort Express connects you and everyone in your family not only to the Internet but to each other. Since it employs the powerful 802.11g standard, you can wirelessly share photos, movies and other files without having to worry about slow data transmissions. Nor do you have to concern yourself over a difficult network setup procedure. AirPort Express uses the revolutionary Bonjour technology in Mac OS X to allow your AirPort-equipped Macs running Mac OS X to detect each other with no effort on your part — they discover each other just by virtue of being within the range of the network.
Extend Your Network
Extend Your Network

If you already have a wireless network in your home and would like to extend its range, AirPort Express is your answer. Suppose you want to connect to the Internet with your PowerBook in an area that lies beyond the 150-foot range of your AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station. You can use AirPort Express as a wireless bridge to extend the range of your primary base station.(5)

There’s no need for extra wires or cables — serving as a bridge, AirPort Express doesn't have to be physically connected to your primary base station or to your DSL or cable modem. Simply place AirPort Express within the range of your primary base station and near the area where you’d like to enjoy your wireless connection.

1. Requires compatible stereo system or powered speakers.
2. AirTunes requires iTunes 4.6 or later.
3. AirPort Express uses the 802.11g wireless standard. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or Wi-Fi-certified 802.11b or 802.11g computer. Achieving data rates of 54 Mbps requires that all users have an AirPort Extreme or Wi-Fi-certified 802.11g enabled computer and connect to an AirPort Express Base Station. If a user of a Wi-Fi-certified 802.11b product joins the network, that user will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme and Wi-Fi-certified 802.11g users will get less than 54 Mbps. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors.
4. Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort Express.
5. AirPort Express can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network.
6. Wireless printing over USB requires Mac OS X v10.2.7 or later or Windows XP or Windows 2000 and a compatible printer.
7. Cables for connecting the AirPort Express Base Station to a DSL or cable modem, USB printer or a stereo or a set of powered speakers are sold separately.

Recommended UST Tire pressure (30 to 60 psi)

UST TUBELESS rim and a sealed valve

Here is some details to easily mount a UST Tubeless tire:

1 - Use a sponge to wet the surface of the rim with soapy water (ordinary water is better than nothing).
2 - Follow the mounting procedure as laid out below.
3 - Pump energetically at the beginning, especially if using a mini-pump.
4 - The beads will lock into place behind the humps, a "popping" sound is sometimes heard which indicates this. Look carefully at the indicating line all around the tire which should be fully visible on both sides.

5 - In order to be 100% sure that the beads are locked into place, deflate the tire and the beads should stay locked in place even with no air in the tire.
6 - Then pump up to the required pressure (recommended pressure is between 2 to 4 bars or 30 to 60 psi).

Mounting

Insert the first bead in the bottom of the groove. For the second bead, start on the opposite side of the valve. Mounting is done without using tools. Insert the second bead in the bottom of the groove. Finish at the valve. The tire must fit snugly in the bottom of the groove before inflating.

Removal

Deflate the tire. Then beginning at the point opposite to the valve, unlock one side of the bead by forcing it into the gorge of the rim. Continue in this fashion around the rest of the tire. Without using tire levers, pull only the first side of tire over the top of the rim around the whole rim circumference. Unlock the second bead by pushing it into the rim gorge and continue round the whole rim circumference. Remove the tire.

Note

Checking the seal of a UST system (UST Tubelesswheel or rim + UST Tubelesstire)
- Verify the external state of the tire (gashes etc…).
- Verify the perfect seating of the tire beads: over-inflate the tire by 10% more than the maximum pressure indicated on the side of the tire and then deflate completely: the tire beads must remain locked on the rim.
- Check the cleanliness of the internal side of the tire and of the rim (eventually clean up with a rag).
- Check the state of the tire beads and the rim sidewalls.
- Re-install the tire, having moistened the bottom of the rim with soapy water.
- Inflate the UST Tubelesssystem to 3 bars (45psi) of pressure, immerse the bottom of the wheel in a bowl of water or spray a leak detector on the tire/rim joint to find the possible leak.
- Install a new tire that you know is perfectly sealed.
- If the leak is revealed around the valve hole, remove the valve, put grease on the rubber part of the valve in contact with the rim, and mount the valve again.

If, after having carried out these checks, the sealing of the UST Tubelesssystem is not acceptable, please consult your local MSC.

UST Tire manufacturers

TIRE BRANDS WHICH DEVELOP UST TUBELESS ITEMS

The UST Tubeless system was developped in partnership with Hutchinson and Michelin over a three year period. During the year following the launch (1999) they had the exclusive rights to the UST Tubeless label.
Now many of the world's leading tire brands, believing in the concept, have come on board with an extensive offer of UST Tubeless tires.
The current brands who have fulfilled all the necessary criteria to use the UST Tubeless label are as follows:

How Mavic UST works.

The seal of a UST Tubeless rim is assured by the SUP welding process on the rim joint and by:
- the Fore drilling technology, which does not pierce the inside of the rim,
or
- the UST rim tape with its specific rim profile.
Mavic® has developed a tubeless valve that fits directly in the rim. It is sealed with an O-ring and rubber base. The tires are easily mounted without any tools. The inner profile of the UST Tubeless rim has a central groove that receives the tire beads when mounting.
UST Tubeless tires only use tires that have the UST Tubelesslogo.
The UST Tubeless wheels are designed to be used with the UST Tubeless tires. This will ensure maximum performance. If you wish, it is also possible to use standard inner tubes and tires (without rim tape).
INFLATING
When inflating, the beads are pressed against the sidewall of the groove of the rim, which ensures the "primary" airtight seal.

LOCKING
As inflation continues, the beads climb up and along the sidewalls of the groove to lock into place behind the raised ridges. This ensures a perfect seal and excellent tire stability.

PUNCTURES
If perforated (thorn...), the puncture is often slow and not instantaneous, which often allows you the possibility of continuing your ride. The repair can be made simply with a repair patch inside the tire, an anti-puncture spray or even by inserting a traditional tube. Tire offer : the tire manufacturers that offer Tubeless UST compatible products are the following : Continental Geax, Hutchinson, IRC, Kenda, Maxxis, Michelin, Nokian, Panaracer, Schwalbe, Scott USA, Specialized, Ritchey, Tioga, WTB.

MAVIC UST Advantages

SO WHAT IS UST TUBELESS?

BETTER EFFICIENCY
It is possible to optimize the efficiency and grip by adjusting the tire pressure according to the type of terrain or the style of rider, with less risk of flats, even at low tire pressure.
Therefore, on a dry, rolling terrain, it is better to increase the pressure to reduce friction between the tire and ground for greater efficiency.
However, on loose or soft terrain, it is better to ride with low pressure to increase the area of contact between the tire and ground, which enhances grip and comfort. It's your choice!

LESS FLAT
The absence of a tube and rim tape reduces the risk of punctures, especially those caused by shocks, snake bites or deteriorated rim tape.

MORE LIGHTWEIGHT
The weight of a Tubeless UST wheel and Tubeless UST tire is less than that of the traditional wheel + rim tape + tube + tire unit.

RUBBER COMPOUND
KENDA has developed some of the most advanced rubber compounds in the cycling world. Rubber compounds are designed with rolling resistance, grip, durability and puncture resistance in mind.

TREAD PATTERN
The environment in which the tire is to be used determines tread pattern. Whether your riding takes you down a nice smooth road, through dusty desert trails, or bombing down a muddy, root infested downhill course, the tread pattern is the key ingredient in how your bike handles.

CASING
The casing is the fabric that the rubber compound adheres to. The fabric of the casing can be made in varying thicknesses and threads per inch (TPI). The casings can be treated and reinforced with various materials in order to achieve different ride qualities.

BEAD
The bead is the loop of material that ensures the tire is held securely to the rim. KENDA Premium Tires are available in either wire, and or folding bead.

UST Tubeless

Kenda has been certified by Mavic to build tubeless tires to the UST Universal System Tubeless) standards. UST standards test a tire’s air retention, ease of mounting and dismounting, bead elasticity, high-pressure limits, and the tires ability to remain seated to the rim under low pressure situations. Tubeless tires offer a distinct advantage over conventional tires in ride quality and flat resistance. Because there is no tube, the tire can be run with approximately 10%-15% less air pressure than conventional tires. The result is improved traction in rough conditions and elimination of “pinch flats”. Tires can be repaired in the field with the use of sealant, patch kit or a tube.
